The goal of a forensic interview is to conduct a developmentally-sensitive interview of children once allegations of abuse have been made. Emphasis is put on the child’s comfort level, minimal number of interviews, and conducting the interview in a child friendly atmosphere. The forensic interviewers are trained in gathering pertinent information from children in a non-leading and sensitive manner.

The forensic interview allows for all of the investigating parties involved (i.e. law enforcement agencies, Child Protective Service, etc.) to observe the interview behind a one way mirror as it is being conducted. This allows the investigating parties to assess the different safety issues and possible criminal violations that may have taken place.

If a case proceeds through the criminal process, the forensic interview becomes an impartial part of the investigation and is the first step in the child’s healing process.
