Dr. Matt Cox, DCAC Board Member, honored by the Community Council of Greater Dallas with a Distinguished Human Service Professional Award

A human services agency executive with a track record for leading youth services in Dallas County and a doctor who is always on call for abused children have been honored by the Community Council of Greater Dallas with Distinguished Human Service Professional Awards.

The Executive Director Award went to Tim James, president and CEO of Dallas Challenge Inc. James has demonstrated creativity in understanding the needs of children and their families and has expanded programs and services that reach thousands of children annually.

The Agency Staff Award went to Dr. Matt Cox, medical director of the Referral and Evaluation of At-Risk Children program at Children's Medical Center and an assistant professor of pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Cox contributes to the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases in Dallas County through REACH. He works with a multidisciplinary team (Dallas Police Department and law enforcement agencies, Child Protective Services, Dallas Children's Advocacy Center and the Dallas County district attorney's office) and partner agencies.

He also attends weekly meetings at the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center to provide insight on specific cases.

Cox testifies regularly in cases regarding children and often serves as an expert witness. He is dedicated to training medical students and supporting professionals who work in the field of crimes against children.
