Dallas-area Chi Omega Alumnae announced that the 2009 Chi Omega Christmas Market last November in the Dallas Convention Center raised $269,500 for local beneficiaries.

The holiday shopping event attracted nearly 10,000 shoppers and featured more than 160 merchants from across the country selling home decor, women's fashion, toys, food and drinks, antiques, handmade jewelry, linens, art, holiday decorations and more, said chairwoman Jenny Kaiser.

Checks were presented last month to the following recipients during a reception at the home of Patty O'Neil:

• $35,000 to Heroes for Children to provide immediate financial assistance to families whose children have cancer.

• $35,000 to Healing Hands Ministries to operate a medical and dental care clinic for children and their families.

• $20,000 to Wednesday's Child to support children in foster care with education needs.

• $28,000 to the Bridge Breast Network to provide care for patients who do not have insurance.

• $50,000 to Dallas Children's Advocacy Center to support therapy for child abuse victims.

• $50,000 to Promise House to support emergency youth shelters.

• $30,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

• $21,500 for college scholarships awarded to Chi Omega members who graduated from a Dallas-area high school.

"This year's market would not have been possible without the countless hours put in by the many Chi Omega Alumnae volunteers," said event co-chair Katherine Coffey.
