Advocacy Center League is to support, serve, and promote the
interests of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center and
to be educational and charitable.
Togs & Tots Bingo
Luncheon – This event funds the Clothes
Closet and other programs of the Dallas Children’s
Advocacy Center. This luncheon features a salad lunch
and several fun-filled games of bingo. Donations from
area merchants are solicited for bingo prizes, table prizes,
and a silent auction. Underwriting is also solicited.
Child Abuse Awareness Month Activities
– April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. The League
is interested in providing special educational activities
possibly with a development aspect.
Galleria Spring Garden
– Volunteer to work an hour shift at the Gardens
which are located at Galleria Dallas.
Clothes Closet – The DCAC League
sponsors and manages the Center’s Clothes Closet.
The Clothes Closet provides new clothing, toiletries,
toys, and school supplies for the children seen at the
Center. Committee members gather donations and purchase
needed items for the Closet. Members of this committee
are also responsible for the maintenance of the Closet
one-week every month and to assist in the seasonal clothes
swap twice a year.
Speakers Bureau - The goal of this committee
is to educate the Dallas community about the mission of
the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. Committee
members speak to civic groups, in United Way presentations,
and at agency fairs. The Speakers Bureau is also responsible
for helping with the weekly Medical Student Training at
the Center, which is held on Thursday mornings.
Favor Bags and Spring Baskets –
Favor bags containing small amounts of candy, toiletries,
and small toys are prepared by League members to be given
to the children by the Center’s therapists for Valentine’s
Day. Approximately 300 are prepared. Shrink-wrapped spring
baskets containing similar items are given to the children
during the Easter season. Approximately 250 baskets are
prepared. Members of this committee can work during organized
work sessions or on their own.
Crimes Against Children Conference
– League members volunteer as room monitors for
the various seminars at the hotel and provide tours of
the Center during the Conference. The Conference is held
at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas in August. Members
were asked to work a four (4) hour shift, if possible.
Treats for the Center – As a morale
booster for the Center staff, the League provides treats
such as cookies, brownies, or healthy snacks for 50 people
once a month. The members of this committee are asked
to provide treats only once, during the year.
Center Assistance
– The Center has a need for volunteers
to work at the Center on a scheduled basis. Volunteers
are needed to work in the playroom with the children in
2 or 3 hour shifts or to help with data entry and to perform
routine secretarial duties. Volunteers can elect to have
a scheduled time or to be called as needed.
League Luncheon – The League will
host a luncheon for the Center staff and the other disciplinary
groups who work outside of the Center. The purpose of
the luncheon is to foster better relations between the
various agencies and to put a face on the League to the
Center staff.
The League has at least five (7) General Meetings during
the calendar year that not only provide information about
what’s going on at the Center, but also provide
wonderful opportunities to hear speakers on the issue
of child abuse. Click here
for the calendar of events. By becoming
a member of the League you can help bring hope and
healing to children who have lost their innocence to child
abuse.
